Michael Pelosi named as new Newspaper Society president

MichaelPelosi The Newspaper Society (NS) has appointed Northcliffe Media managing director Michael Pelosi as its new president.

Pelosi, who moved into his new role on July 1, began his career with Northcliffe 20 years ago joining the company as group finance director. He was promoted to deputy managing director in 1995 and was appointed managing director in 2004.

He replaced the outgoing president Russell Whitehair, who after finishing the year-long NS presidency will remain a member of the NS Council.

The Newspaper Society is the body responsible for representing the interests of local media businesses in the UK, a sector containing over 1,300 local newspaper titles, 1,100 associated websites, 750 magazines, 36 radio and two television stations.

"It is a pleasure to be representing the NS as its president at a time when so many innovations in the delivery of local news and content are being conceived and developed by the sector," Pelosi said.
