Trinity Mirror and UCLan to train senior editorial staff in multimedia

Trinity Mirror is partnering with the University of Central Lancashire to train senior editorial staff on its regional newspapers about the challenge of multimedia publishing.

Trinity Mirror Regionals Editorial Leaders Programme has launched this month to run courses on editorial strategy in the digital era.

Thirteen key editorial staff from Trinity Mirror Regionals will be delegates on the one-year course, which leads to a post-graduate certificate qualification.

They will meet for three, one-week residential courses over the next 12 months, with additional learning and discussion delivered virtually over the internet.

The programme will replace Today's Editor - Trinity Mirror Regionals in-house course for senior editorial staff.

"We have always paid a great deal of attention to staff development, and Today's Editor has been a very effective way of developing our top talent," said Neil Benson, Trinity Mirror Regionals editorial director.

"However, with the industry undergoing such radical change, we felt it was time to look for a new type of programme that will equip our next generation of newsroom leaders with all the key managerial skills, allied to a strongly enhanced understanding of journalism in the multimedia context.

"We are delighted to be teaming up with UCLan, who have an excellent pedigree and a highly innovative and interactive approach.

"We were very keen that the programme should be set in the Trinity Mirror context, so we have arranged for interactive sessions with our senior editorial, digital, multimedia and marketing people to be built in.

"There will also be visits and working sessions involving very senior people at the corporate level."
