Scott Trust expands bursary scheme with online journalism element
The Scott Trust, owner of Guardian Media Group (GMG), has expanded its bursary scheme to include a course in online journalism. In addition to the Trust's regular six postgraduate newspaper journalism bursaries four new postgraduate bursaries - two in broadcast journalism and two in technology - have been added to the scheme.
The bursaries are intended to assist students who face financial difficulty in attaining the qualifications needed to pursue a career in media.
GMG said that changes to the bursaries, which are aimed at promoting greater diversity within the media industry, are to better reflect the breadth of the group's operations across online, radio and newspapers.
The Trust aims to offer the majority of the awards to applicants from minority ethnic backgrounds, with the technology bursaries targeted at female applicants.
GMG also announced that the Scott Trust would additionally start to provide five diversity fund bursaries for National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) programmes.
