Guardian offering insight into a national newspaper's newsroom

The Guardian is to run a number of internships and work experience schemes throughout the year to provide budding journalists with an insight into the workings of a national newspaper's newsroom.

The paper's Positive Action Scheme aims to improve the representation of ethnic minorities in journalism, and each summer offers 12 two-week placements for graduates and students.

Applicants for the scheme can apply online by submitting their CV and covering letter before 27 March 2008.

The Guardian also runs Insight into Journalism Days, free one-day workshops, four times a year. Attendees get the chance to make up their own front pages from the latest new leads and hear presentation from experienced editors and journalists explaining their career path within the Guardian.

The next workshop is to be held in April and is limited to 30 places. Applicants for the workshop must be over 18 years and email to apply.
