Pipes and mash-up anyone?
Journalism.co.uk today officially launched a new channel on its web site containing a filtered mix of posts from the best blogs about journalism. The mash-up utilises Yahoo Pipes to pre-filter blog RSS feeds to only include certain categories (in some cases), order by date and remove aggregated del.icio.us-type "Links for..." posts.
Bloggers included so far include City University's head of journalism Professor Adrian Monck, senior community producer/broadcast journalist for BBC English Regions New Media Robin Hamman, and BBC News website editor Steve Herrmann.
Publisher and Journalism.co.uk founder John Thompson said: "We believe this new service will be of great benefit to journalists interested in hearing from practitioners at the cutting-edge of their profession, as well as acting as a model on which they can base their own filtered RSS feed mash-ups.
"Yahoo Pipes is a great research tool for journalists and has an excellent graphical interface to help non-programmers visualise the various functions. It's also a community; if you can't face creating your own mash-ups, over the coming months others will create and share theirs, making it easy for you to subscribe to the feeds as they are, or adapt for your own purposes."
Journalism.co.uk intends to continue evolving its current mash-up, as well as creating new ones in the future.
"We currently include feeds from 19 sources, but this is by no means the end of it," said Mr Thompson. "Over the coming weeks we hope to expand the sources based both on recommendations from our readers and from our own continuing research."
