New journalism event to focus on microblogging and news

Screenshot of media140 website The impact of Twitter on journalism and the news industry will be the focus of London's first microblogging event – media140.

Journalism.co.uk will join journalists from the Times, Guardian, Reuters and Sky News to discuss microblogging as a tool for journalists, how it can be used for local news and the issues around breaking news via Twitter.

Speakers include Tom Whitwell, Times Online assistant editor (@musicthing), Paul Bradshaw, lecturer at Birmingham City University (@paulbradshaw) and Kevin Anderson, Guardian blogs editor (@kevglobal).

"I want the event to raise the bar with twitter and microblogging within the world of journalism - there is a lot of change coming," event organiser Andrew Gregson (@dailytwitter) told Journalism.co.uk in a tweet.

All proceeds from the event will go to learning disability charity Mencap.

Media140 will run from 2pm-6pm followed by a drinks reception on May 20 at Iris Digital in London. For further information visit the website or book tickets, priced at £45, at this link. A 20 per cent discount is available with the code 'journo140' and a limited number of early bird tickets are available at £30.

Full coverage of the event will feature on Journalism.co.uk.
