New journalism event to focus on microblogging and news

The impact of Twitter on journalism and the news industry will be the focus of London's first microblogging event – media140.

Journalism.co.uk will join journalists from the Times, Guardian, Reuters and Sky News to discuss microblogging as a tool for journalists, how it can be used for local news and the issues around breaking news via Twitter.

Speakers include Tom Whitwell, Times Online assistant editor (@musicthing), Paul Bradshaw, lecturer at Birmingham City University (@paulbradshaw) and Kevin Anderson, Guardian blogs editor (@kevglobal).

"I want the event to raise the bar with twitter and microblogging within the world of journalism - there is a lot of change coming," event organiser Andrew Gregson (@dailytwitter) told Journalism.co.uk in a tweet.

All proceeds from the event will go to learning disability charity Mencap.

Media140 will run from 2pm-6pm followed by a drinks reception on May 20 at Iris Digital in London. For further information visit the website or book tickets, priced at £45, at this link.
