Investigative journalists descend on Amsterdam

Several hundred investigative journalists are expected in Amsterdam this autumn for the third annual Global Investigative Journalism conference.

Running from 29 September to 2 October, the extensive programme covers workshops and discussions on power and corruption in the media, cold war investigations, project management and generating story ideas.

Panel sessions will cover investigative journalism since the start of the war on terror and will be led by key speakers including the Guardian's investigations editor David Leigh and Moscow Times columnist Yevgenia Albats. US representatives include Charles Lewis, founder of the Center for Public Integrity and Washington Post database editor Sarah Cohen.

This year's conference will provide special training on internet research and computer skills including security, creating a news platform and locating reliable international archives and statistics.

The event is organised by De Vereniging van Onderzoeksjournalisten (VVOJ), the Dutch-Flemish organisation for investigative journalists. Places are charged at €390 (around £268) with discounts for VVOJ members.
