WSJ repeats open house promotion
The Wall Street Journal is offering free access to its entire website this week in a bid to attract new subscribers.The 'open house' will run until 12 November with advertisers including Cingular Wireless and Sprint sponsoring different days. Users can access all WSJ content including a new 90-day archive that stores favourite articles and columns.
A similar promotion in November 2004 attracted 19,000 new subscribers. Ninety per cent of those that tried the free trial went on to pay for a subscription to the business and finance site.
"We are confident that users who visit the site during the open house will realise that the Online Journal offers in-depth, real-time news and information, as well as award-winning analysis and content that can’t be found anywhere else on the web," said Todd Larsen, president of consumer electronic publishing for Dow Jones.
