Reuters partners with Global Voices project

Reuters has teamed up with the Global Voices Online project to help fund a full-time managing editor and outreach work.

The Global Voices project is based at the Berkman Center at Harvard University in the US and aims to foster international discussion through a network of bloggers.

Reuters will publish selected content Global Voices on its news websites and will help the project with training and publicity.

"We believe that bloggers and journalists share a common goal of informing an engaged global citizenry," said Rebecca MacKinnon, co-founder of Global Voices.

"We hope that the new partnership can help us develop ways of using the internet to ensure that voices of people in all parts of the globe can be heard, and to enable interaction between citizen perspectives and professional journalism in ways that were not possible before."

Global Voices will be taking part in the Reuters/BBC We Media forum in London on 3 and 4 May. The forum explores the implications of the citizen journalism movement and public trust in the media.
