BBC launches blog about internet operations
The BBC has launched a new blog to open up discussion about the corporation's website. The BBC Internet Blog - a sister blog to the existing editors' blogs for news and sport - will cover plans for bbc.co.uk as well as the development of on-demand platforms such as interactive television and mobile.
Content on the blog will be provided by senior staff from the BBC's future media department.
In an opening post, Ashley Highfield, divisional director of BBC's future media and technology division, said the aim of the project was to 're-engage' with both friends and critics of the organisation.
According to Highfield, issues surrounding content, distribution and audience interaction will all feature on the blog.
"I think we have been slow to embrace blogs as a way of discussing our strategy and direction," he wrote.
"This often leads to the debate happening elsewhere, based often on only half the information, and without our being able fully to join in the debate."
He added that the blog should be seen as a providing 'a deeper level of engagement' with the licence fee payer and an attempt to 'keep the BBC relevant in the digital age'.
