Topix to run forums and comments for US newspaper group

News aggregation and forums site Topix has struck a deal to run the forums and article commenting system for MediaNews Group.

MediaNews is the publisher of 61 US daily newspapers, including the Denver Post and San Jose Mercury News.

(check the Journalism.co.uk blog for issues surrounding the deal)

The news publisher has already launched forums on several of its newspaper sites including LowellSun.com, SentinelandEnterprise.com, ConnecticutPost.com, and NewsTimes.com.

As a result of the deal, an additional 30-40 sites are expected to follow suit in the next few weeks. With all MediaNews sites expected to be using Topix by early 2008.

Topix already runs forums for news providers IndyStar.com and Sun-Sentinel.com.
