More mags to use bloggers' work

British online magazines PC Advisor, Digit and Macworld look set to benefit from blog posts written by people around the world after publisher IDG UK joined the BlogBurst network upon completion of its trial phase.

Operated by news software provider Pluck, BlogBurst, which began a beta phase in May, syndicates articles from some 3,000 selected bloggers to news publishers' own sites, including The Washington Post and Gannett titles.

A 1.0 version was released this week, with Pluck unveiling IDG UK among a range of additional "lighthouse" publishers that will monitor and link out to the blogosphere.

The new cohort includes Reuters, USA Today, Discovery and Canadian portal Telus. Guardian Unlimited has also trialled the service.

"Our blogger members have shown publishers that they can produce invaluable content that piques the interest of traditional audiences," said Pluck CEO Dave Panos in a statement.

"By working together, publishers and bloggers are entering the new media age where mainstream firms and innovative new publishers combine to give the everyday reader a richer, more complete perspective on important local news and world events."

BlogBurst 1.0 includes BurstWires, feeds managed by Pluck editorial staff to present posts written on breaking news events in a number of categories, and allows participating bloggers from 45 countries to see when their posts have been syndicated and clicked on.
