BBC embraces Russian bloggers with Live Journal partnership

The BBC and blogging platform LiveJournal.com have jointly launched a citizen journalism project in to connect Russian bloggers to the news service.

The joint project, Live Report, links bloggers with BBCRussian.com though LiveJournal, Russia's biggest blogging platform.

A BBC-branded area has been created on LiveJournal.com so the blogging community can post blogs, comments, photos or video on Live Report that relate to BBC stories, the corporation will then republish elements of the user-generated content in conjunction with it's own news output.

"The BBC is keen to expand engagement with social media and reflect user-generated content in its output," said Stephen Grootenboer, BBC World Service business development manager, Russia.

"Partnership with LiveJournal manifests the changing nature of BBC Russian as it uses new platforms to reach its audiences."

LiveJournal.com in Russia has already reached similar content partnership agreements with other international brands, including Last.fm and The New York Times.
