Future of NUJ's The Journalist magazine 'under review'

Screenshot of NUJ website The National Union of Journalists' (NUJ) is reviewing the future of its monthly magazine as part of an overhaul of the union's communications department and publications that could see the title launch as a standalone website.

A motion passed at the union's annual delegate meeting (ADM), earlier this month, instructed the union's national executive committee (NEC) to review the production and distribution of monthly magazine, The Journalist, along with the union's existing website.

The review has already instigated a costs saving measure that resulted in the scrapping of the print edition of The Journalist magazine for its April edition. The magazine was instead distributed in a PDF format.

All future editions of the magazine will be distributed as PDFs or an equivalent format while the magazine's editorial advisory board considers launching a standalone website for the title to give the title greater presence.

The findings of the review, which will also look into the union's communications department and strategy, will be reported at the union's next ADM in 2009.

Comments

For clarification, the future of the print version is not yet decided. All issues will be offered for distribution in digital format from now on, but that doesn't necessarily mean exclusively.
Donnacha DeLong, New Media Representative, NEC, NUJ - 30/04/08

Thanks Donnacha - have corrected 'from April' to 'for April'. Will be interesting to see what happens.
