Journalism.co.uk press release distribution service now on Twitter
Journalism.co.uk has launched a new service to distribute press releases to mobile devises via Twitter.Following on from its launch last month of PressGo, a press release publication and distribution service, Journalism.co.uk is aiming to target journalists and bloggers on the move by sending alerts to their mobile devices.
Journalists can sign up to receive free SMS alerts to their mobile telephone whenever a press release relevant to their subject area is published on Journalism.co.uk.
The service delivers the SMS messages through Twitter, a social networking service and popular research tool for journalists that already claims 15 million users.
"Twitter is one of the fastest-growing phenomenons on the web at the moment, and our aim in adopting this service is to allow journalists the greatest possible flexibility in how they receive news leads, while at the same time ensuring maximum exposure for the press releases published on our site," said John Thompson, publisher of Journalism.co.uk.
"By publishing links to the releases on Twitter and using keywords for each of our 37 category specific feeds, we take advantage of Twitter's high search engine rankings and optimise traffic back to the full articles on our site. It's also an excellent way to target bloggers and web-savvy journalists."
Twitter users can also access messages direct from their desktops through its web pages and using free software packages such as Twitterific or Twhirl that allow them to view and respond to messages.
PressGo enables journalists to subscribe to RSS feeds spanning 37 different subject categories and to create their own customised feeds based on keyword searches.
