NCTJ announces shortlist for Awards for Excellence in Journalism
A shortlist of 25 journalists has been finalised for the
NCTJ's annual Awards for Excellence in Journalism.
Judges included eight representatives from the regional press, Geoff Critchley from PA Sport and Murray Morse from the Daily Sport.
The shortlists are as follows:
News Reporter: Donna Bowater, City of Wolverhampton College; Ben Barnett, Telegraph and Argus; Naomi Loomes, City College Brighton & Hove; David Paine, Worcester News; Elizabeth Webster, Lambeth College; Tessa Youens, Gravesend Messenger.
Sport: Graham Britton, Sheffield College; Jonathan Jurejko, Doncaster Free Press; Steve Jones, News Associates Manchester; Ben Pearce, Islington Gazette.
Top Scoop: Graham Britton, Sheffield College; Ben Frampton, South Wales Argus; Steven Kelly, Brighton Journalist Works; Deborah Green, South Wales Argus; Delia Monk, Lambeth College.
Feature writer: Marie Duffy, University of Ulster; Emma Kasprzak, North Shropshire Chronicle; Sara Pepper, University of Salford; Kelly Shorrock, Derby Evening Telegraph; Paul Prowse, Nottingham Trent University; Tessa Youens, Gravesend Messenger.

Six judges will now make the final selection for the categories above: there will be a student and trainee winner in each, three additional performance awards which reflect results at preliminary and NCE level, and the NCTJ's Chairman's Award - to mark one individual's outstanding contribution.
Most results will be announced at the
Society of Editors' conference in Bristol, November 9-11. The NCTJ chairman, Kim Fletcher, will announce the Chairman's Award on December 4-5 at the NCTJ Journalism Training Conference.
