SoE08: BBC could share content and develop industry standards for metadata

It would be 'within limits' for the BBC to share content with other news organisations, its head of multimedia has said.

Speaking at the Society of Editors (SoE) conference, Pete Clifton said sharing of video content, in particular, had already been discussed and was a 'well articulated part' of the corporation's local online video plans.

The BBC, he added, should look to forge more, and stronger, relationships with other media partners.

Clifton said there was scope for the BBC to lead the development of an industry standard for metadata.

"The BBC could play an important role in common metadata strategies and the way we share and corral our content together," Clifton told delegates.

"The technical know-how and wider clout that we [the BBC] have, could have some benefit to industry as a whole."
