Two new regular pages have been launched on Journalism.co.uk. One will track job cuts in the current media climate; the other will trace issues of media freedom affecting journalists across the world.
Job cuts page: Journalists facing redundancies and those of us reporting on these industry cutbacks are unlikely to have missed the growing number of stories, from across the globe, detailing job losses, buyouts and downsizing in the journalism industry.
To chronicle what has happened so far and provide updates on the international situation, we've created a timeline using Dipity, which you can find as part of a page dedicated to covering the recession as it affects journalists.
It is not embedded here as we hope you'll visit the page, use it, help us update it and take part in a discussion about the current pressures journalists are facing.
You can follow updates to the timeline on Twitter at @journojobcuts or by subscribing to the RSS feed: http://www.dipity.com/Journalismcouk/personal/rss.
Media freedom page: Article 19 of the the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as adopted by the UN 60 years ago sets out global rights for freedom of expression.
Sadly, every day these rights are broken. Journalism.co.uk tries to follow up on the most important media stories of the day from a global and online perspective. Of course, it's impossible to cover everything. The new page is the opportunity to publicise and track threats to press freedom around the world, highlighting the work of international journalism organisations, such as Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Committee to Protect Journalists.
The Dipity timeline, map and list can be manually updated by any user. Please create a Dipity account, and help us make this resource as comprehensive as possible. Journalism.co.uk will monitor it for any misuse. @journalismnews will alert followers on Twitter when the Timeline is updated.
