CMS2009: First projects developed from Guardian's Open Platform

openplatform The first projects have already been launched using the Guardian's newly released Content API, Matt McAlister, head of the Guardian developer network, told Journalism.co.uk at the MediaGuardian Changing Media Summit.

Developer Tony Hirst has trialled two new applications after signing up for the Guardian's new developer partnership scheme last week.

Hirst, an educational technologist who works for the Open University, has developed one application which allows related Guardian content to be aggregated in correlation with the content of a Twitter user's interests.

"You put in the Twitter ID of yourself, or someone you've been following, it it goes through Yahoo pipes and looks at the Guardian API and finds related content to what they [the users] have been talking about," explained McAlister.

Hirst has also developed an application which maps Guardian football results by location.

"We don't put a geo-location on results, but he was able to take the content and find the stadium location and plot it on a map," said McAlister.

"We would never think of that. There's been some really good experimental stuff."

The Guardian will chart the progress of projects on the Open Platform blog, but as yet the new applications have not been publicised.
