Times gains, Guardian and Telegraph drop in ABCe monthlies

Timesonline.co.uk is the only UK national newspaper website reporting monthly traffic figures to have posted a significant gain in readers, according to figures released today by the ABCe.

Of the remaining three, the Telegraph and the Guardian both posted month-on-month falls in unique users, whereas the Sun marginally increased its number of users on the previous month.

Previous market position was broadly maintained, with the exception of the Times which overtook the Sun and moved back into position as the nation's second most popular newspaper website, according to the ABCe unique user metric.

Guardian Unlimited still leads the field as the most widely read UK newspaper site. However, it slipped 9.6 per cent month-on-month to 14.5m unique users in June from 16.1 million in May.

Timesonline.co.uk had nearly 9.7m monthly unique users in June, a 10.5 per cent increase from the previous month where it registered 8.7m. Moving it back into second place above stable mate Sun.co.uk, which registered a slight increase of 0.2 per cent to just over 9m unique users last month.

Telegraph.co.uk joined the Guardian in dipping figures, registering 7.1m unique users, down from 7.3m the previous month.
