Mirror Football site goes live in time for the new season

Mirror Group has launched a new site, separate to its main web presence, promising thousands of images of 'Britain's most iconic football moments'.

Timed to coincide with the start of the new season, the new MirrorFootball.co.uk - developed in collaboration with a Liverpool-based agency, Rippleffect - will publish football news and comment, as well as 'newly-discovered' photographic material, was accessible to users from today.

Some of the photos have never been seen before, the company said in its announcement, and cited shots that capture Sir Alf Ramsey's England team in training the day before the 1966 World Cup Final, Manchester United and Liverpool's great European triumphs, and pictures of Dixie Dean, Bill Shankly, Billy Wright, Bobby Moore, George Best and Paul Gascoigne.

A new weekly Fantasy Football game has also been introduced: Mirror Fantasy Stake, where users can set up competitive mini-leagues.

It is the company's intention to 'fully capture the passion of football and its fans,' said Mark Hollinshead, managing director of Mirror Group Newspapers, in the release. "MirrorFootball.co.uk will be a uniquely engaging website and an instant smash hit with a very broad and knowledgeable audience."
