The BBC is set to cut up to 100 jobs in its new media division in a move to concentrate more on developing its resources in interactive TV.
The announcement came last week (12 March 2003) proceeding an 18-month review of BBCi, the amalgamated interactive services of BBC Online, BBC Text and BBC Intercative.
Job losses are expected to take place over the next 12 months and are likely to be mostly from interactive Factual and Learning, interactive Development and Services and Radio and Music interactive.
The BBC hopes that changes to the division will be made via natural wastage, voluntary redundancy and redeployment.
In response to its business review, the BBC expects its shift to interactive TV to ensure value-for-money for its licence-fee paying viewers.
In a statement the BBC said: "The new media business has matured, moving from a phase of high initial investment into a period of consolidation which sees increased resources in interactive TV; an even more robust technical architecture and infrastructure; and easier access to BBCi content through improved distribution."
