Online Journalism News

Award candidates revealed

The shortlist for this year's NetMedia European Online Journalism Awards has been selected from more than a thousand entries.

The award ceremony will be held in Barcelona on 3 July, on the same day as the annual online digital media conference.

Prizes will be presented in 21 categories including best news story, best use of multimedia and best news weblog of the year.

The BBC has been nominated in 13 categories, including the prestigious 'Internet journalist of the year' award for coverage of the Iraq war.

Our own newsletter, dotJournalism, has been nominated for two awards including 'Outstanding contribution to online journalism in Europe' alongside Slovenian news site Dnevnik and Mike Smartt, editor-in-chief of BBC News Interactive.

The other nomination is for 'Best news story broken on the web' - see UK news agency sent second Bin Laden tape.

The NetMedia conference will focus on this year's theme of 'making digital media pay online'. Speakers include Tracy Corrigan, editor of ft.com, David Day, senior vice-president of Nielsen/NetRatings and Neil Budde, founder of Wall Street Journal online.

A full report on the NetMedia conference in Barcelona will appear in dotJournalism next week.
