Germans offer free training

German training organisation the International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) is offering free places on a five-week course in online journalism.

Applicants must be professional journalists over the age of 32 with at least five years' experience and an interest in the internet and online journalism. Fluency in English and good computer skills are also required.

According to the course outline: "Online journalism can contribute tremendously to increase transparency and political participation, and this in turn will foster social and economic development and peace worldwide."

The programme is open to journalists from Angola, Ghana, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe as well as Laos, Vietnam and Peru.

To apply, journalists must contact the German embassy in their own country.

Applications must be received by 30 July. The course will be held in Berlin, Germany between 22 October and 3 December 2004.
