How to pitch and market a book: one-day course

Getting a book published successfully requires more than just a good idea and some finely-crafted prose. How do you get your idea noticed, navigate contractual waters, meet your deadlines and ensure it sells? Led by a published author, this session aims to equip you with the tools you need to succeed. This course is aimed at anyone thinking of writing a book, but will especially benefit people who can bring a current project with them.

This course will provide you with:
  • Practical advice on pitching – the vital first step in your journey.
  • An overview of the publishing market.
  • Information and advice on contracts, commission structures and fees.
  • Tips on completing your manuscript to brief, to deadline and to a high standard.
  • A briefing on the importance of helping to market your book and some practical techniques for doing so.
NB: Delegates are strongly advised to attend with book ideas to discuss during the day.

About Martin Cloake

Martin Cloake is the author of seven sports books, and worked for 20 years as a sub-editor, mainly in mass-market women’s magazines.

He is currently working on his eighth book and editing a series of titles due to go to market later this year.

Martin has been interviewed about his work on radio, tv and podcast. He is also a freelance journalist and associate lecturer in production journalism at the London College of Communication.
