Winter Weather Doesn’t Stop Work at Wisework

Posted: 03/02/09
Despite experiencing the coldest winter for over a decade and with no sign of a let-up in sight many businesses are seriously disrupted. Not so at Wisework.co.uk where they provide consultancy help to organisations who are introducing remote working.

On Monday morning, Peter Thomson, a Director of Wisework, was able to have a morning meeting with Tony Wareing, a fellow director, as usual. Peter was sitting at his desk in his home office near Henley-on-Thames whilst Tony was at his home in the village of Granborough in Buckinghamshire. As they go through the week they will be continuing to meet with other colleagues and clients without having to step outside their front doors. The secret of their success is called “Megameeting”.

“We have found this way of meeting so valuable we are now running free workshops to encourage people to change old habits and show them how to run effective video meetings over the Internet. Most professional and managerial workers could halve the number of face-to-face meetings they hold by using alternative ways of communicating” says Peter Thomson. “Even when the weather is fine people waste an enormous amount of time and money travelling to meetings and it’s not until the snow arrives that we look for alternatives.”

Wisework also run training sessions for managers to help them decide when to hold face to face meetings and when alternatives are more appropriate.

The Megameeting service used by Wisework can be used from anywhere with an Internet connection. This is a video meeting system that allows the users to sit at their own computers and see each other as if they were in the same room. They can scribble on a whiteboard, pin up notices, show presentations or share documents without having to actually meet. There is no need for expensive equipment or special software as it can be accessed from any computer using a standard browser such as Internet Explorer.

So while snow continues to fall and some businesses start to suffer, Wisework continues to hold meetings successfully over the Internet. They are happy to meet up with anyone who wants advice on how to reduce their meetings workload – but only if they can do it without having to step out into the cold!
