UK Essays Exposing Adwords Failures

Despite repeated calls by custom model-answer company UK Essays, it seems Google still aren’t enforcing their much-praised “Academic Aids Adwords Ban”

UK Essays conducting a survey using various key-terms, phrases that websites can target to increase their visibility on the search engine, and found that just using 10 searches they could find 11 Academic Aids companies advertising through Google Adwords.

Adwords lets people pay-per-click on adverts given high prominence at the top of search results in the highlighted 'Sponsored Link' box at the top and also in a panel on the right hand side under 'Sponsored Links'. Google restricts a number of products and services from advertising on Adwords – ads that promote explosives, violence, alcohol, drugs, and academic aids are just some of these.

“We’ve contacted Google so many times about this that it has ceased to be even remotely amusing,” said the CEO of Academic Answers (the parent company of UK Essays), Barclay Littlewood. “Whilst they have taken some steps to remove these kinds of sites, keeping themselves in-line with their policy, it’s ridiculous that 11 companies appeared by doing 10 searches – some of them appeared on five or six searches, clearly in the Adwords, sponsored links section.”

Mr Littlewood continued: “I don’t mind if Google wants to lifts its ban, but if they choose to enforce it then they need to enforce it properly, thoroughly, and professionally, or it makes a mockery out of all the well-deserved positive press they received in May 2007, not least because we feel they’re in breach of competition regulations by leaving it so up in the air.”
