Trio in Contest for Top Painting Industry Award

The search to find the trainee painter and decorator of the year has reached its final stage.

Thirty four apprentices from 16 companies competed in the regional heats of the annual Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) competition at venues in Leeds, Stoke-on-Trent and Slough.

A finalist was chosen at each heat with the winner being announced at the PDA Premier Trophy Awards Luncheon at Painters’ Hall, London, on 4 June.

The finalists are Luke Davies, of Vince Robinson Professional Decorating Services, a student at the Leeds College of Building; Craig Martin, of J & S Seddon Painting Ltd, who attends Stoke-on-Trent College; and Craig Critchlow of Ian Williams Ltd, a trainee at Southampton City College.

Paul Marsden, chief executive of the PDA, said: “This year’s Trainee of the Year competition has proved to be a great success and has attracted entrants from more companies and training centres than in previous years.

“The standard of craftsmanship shown at the heats was extremely high with all entrants being a credit to their employers.”

The Painting and Decorating Association, which has its headquarters in Nuneaton, was established in July 2002, following a merger of the British Decorators’ Association and the Painting & Decorating Federation. The British Decorators’ Association was originally founded in 1894.
