Unique Products from Recycled Bottles - New - Novel - Beautiful and Practical
http://www.bathflatbottles.org.uk
How it all began
Lawrence of Bath trained at world renowned Tommy G’s in Manhattan where he learned methods of stained glass making used by the master of modern stained glass Louis Comfort Tiffany, and other traditional artisans. But it was a visit to a street market in Greenwich Village that sowed the seeds of his latest creative venture. A flattened wine bottle, sold as an ornament got him thinking – how to take this idea and make something not only beautiful, but useful as well.
After months of trial and error, Lawrence worked out a way of affixing and sealing labels on the underside of wine bottles so that they can be used as cheese boards, or as a ‘bar buddy’ to slice lemons and limes and washed after wards.
The cheese boards and Bar Buddies were an instant hit with wine buffs and foodies, but many of his customers asked if he had anything similar for their husbands, brothers and sons who didn’t eat cheese or drink wine. A huge fan of St Peter’s Organic Ale and Chimay, he realised that the attractive empties would make great bowls for peanuts, olives or crisps – the perfect gift for those difficult to buy for guys.
The rest, as they say is history; fruit bowls, platters, vases made from champagne bottles, candle sticks, tea light holders, even salt and pepper shakers made from miniatures all followed. In fact, Lawrence of Bath now offers over a dozen products – each using genuinely recycled bottles and helping a range of charities.
Beautiful items that are useful and help to save the planet – the ultimate guilt free product!
A note about recycled bottles
In the beginning, Lawrence used his own empties, but as business grew, he needed some help! Luckily, the pubs and bars of Bath are only too happy to let him dig around in their bins, meaning that every product can still be made from bottles that would otherwise be thrown away.
He did contact a recycling company to see if they could help, but was stunned to be told that its too labour intensive to sort the bottles, and many of the bottles we recycle, thinking they will be re-used are merely ground up and shipped abroad to make motorways – not the most auspicious of ends for all those bottles we spend so much time sorting!
Lawrence of Bath believes that every bottle deserves a second chance as one of his beautiful, unique products. As most of the bottles he gets are free, Lawrence of Bath gives a percentage of every sale to charity – it’s his way of giving a little back so you don’t have to.
