Brain Injured Individuals Benefit from RehaCom – Software Enabling More Effective Therapy Launches in the UK

When Felipe Massa suffered a life-threatening crash at the Hungarian GP it highlighted once more the challenge of recovering from a brain injury. Of course most individuals affected are not in the public eye but according to Dr Derek Jones, Director of Anatomical Concepts (UK) Ltd, a Scottish rehabilitation engineering company,
“Brain damage, whether as a result of a stroke, multiple sclerosis, trauma or dementia often leads to a massive reduction in quality of life. Intensive therapy helps but most individuals will not receive enough support because therapy time – an increasingly precious resource, is often in short supply.”
Affected individuals can have a wide variety of practical difficulties. Cognitive functions, such as our ability to pay attention, concentrate, remember even basic things, interpret what we see and even make logical decisions can be affected. Skilled therapists and neuropsychologists work with these individuals to recover ability over time but there are real challenges.
Therapists are greatly in need of tools that enable timely, effective rehabilitation because each year a growing number of individuals must be treated.
RehaCom, software for enabling cognitive rehabilitation, has been refined over 20 years in clinics across Europe and is now available in the UK. A good therapist already has the know-how to work with patients to improve their abilities and restore quality of life. By using RehaCom, a therapist can treat the growing numbers of patients with complex problems – and do so more quickly and easily than using conventional methods.
Professor Hans Regel developed the concept behind RehaCom as long ago as 1986. The software has evolved continuously with input from psychologists, therapists and computer scientists. Hasomed GmbH, based in Magdeburg Germany, have made RehaCom the number one choice for cognitive rehabilitation across Europe but it has remained relatively unknown in the UK.
Anatomical Concepts (UK) have signed an agreement with Hasomed GmbH to offer RehaCom in the UK as a tool for therapists to use in cognitive rehabilitation.
Nadine Kolski, Marketing Manager for RehaCom in Europe says:
“Until now, therapists have had to adapt games and software not designed for treating brain injury. RehaCom offers a range of 25 precisely designed procedures tested in over 1000 European facilities. It is quick to learn, but requires an experienced therapist to fully exploit its capabilities.”
