Emap appoints Rachael Taylor as news and online editor of Retail Jeweller magazine

Rachael Taylor Rachael Taylor has been appointed news and online editor of Emap's Retail Jeweller magazine.

Taylor, formerly news editor on another Emap online publication, Spring Fair Marketplace, will now manage two news sections - products and business -  for the monthly magazine and the recently relaunched website Retail-jeweller.com.

The biggest challenge Taylor faces is deciding which stories to publish online, and which to hold back for the monthly title, she told Journalism.co.uk.

"For the past year I've been working purely online so have been used to immediately publishing stories as I write them, so switching from this immediacy to finding a suitable balance between print and online will be tricky, and I might have to retrain myself to be a bit more patient!," added Taylor.

"Also, Retail-jeweller.com is a relatively new source for news - in fact it's only a couple of months old - so really driving the website forward and making it an essential source for jewellery news for retailers and designers is top of my list. We are also planning to make the news sections in the magazine a lot sharper, so that will also make for a challenge."

Taylor started her career on Emap's Retail Week magazine production desk as a sub-editor. She advised those wanting to follow her foot steps that they should "be nice to everyone you meet'.

"You never know when they'll come in handy - in the nicest possible way," she said. "Always keep your eyes and ears open," she added.

"If you want to work online be prepared to turn around copy fast, and always carry a notebook, camera and a healthy dose of charm."
