Michelle Price takes business editor role at The Banker

Michelle Price has been named business editor of The Banker, published by the Financial Times Ltd.

In her new role, she must represent the magazine at international meetings and conduct high level interviews with politicians, finance ministers and CEOs for major stories. She will also work in multimedia, producing online videos.

There are many challenging aspects to her new role, she told Journalism.co.uk: "Gaining access to high profile politicians and financiers is frequently a challenge, but the breadth of my role on the magazine and the multiple functions that I, and my colleagues, have to perform is by far the most demanding aspect of the job."

Price was previously trading and technology editor on the magazine, reporting on a range of issues from hedge funds, prime brokerage and exchanges, to retail banking and Green IT.

Prior to joining the FT she worked for Vitesse Media as a senior staff writer, having started out in the world of journalism as a reporter at a very small independent publishing house. She was also involved in a lot of student journalism while at university and have undertaken freelance work to broaden my portfolio.

"For junior reporters wanting to be editors the best advice is to embrace responsibility and multiple decision-making functions, and to push yourself forward to manage projects where they arise. Editors have to take on a broad range of responsibilities and prove themselves to be competent in a commercial context, and to have good internal communication and presentation skills - without forgetting the essence of good journalism."
