John Thompson - editor/publisher

John Thompson - editor/publisherJohn Thompson began his journalistic career on a local newspaper and spent more years than he cares to admit freelancing mostly as a layout/sub-editor on business and professional publications.

He launched www.journalism.co.uk in early 1999 and his online publishing and news photography business Mousetrap Media Ltd was fully incorporated in May 2000.

Clare Fisher - production manager

Clare Fisher - production managerTel: +44 (0)1273 384293
Email: clare at journalism.co.uk

Clare is the person to contact about: freelance listings, job adverts, events/awards pages, Freelancer of the Fortnight, Smart Moves, the links directory and accounts.

Clare originates from a small town down the road from Brighton. Always being a seaside lass you can't drag her away from our pebbled shore and funfair pier (the other pier is burnt to a crisp).

She came to Brighton, tempted by the bright lights and relaxed life-style. It was while completing her information and media studies degree at Brighton University that she joined us for a one-month placement. We have not been able to get rid of her since she became full-time in October 2004.

If she isn't running around the office, you can catch her sneaking a peak online at her adopted chicken Maureen. Longing for the day she can retreat to the countryside and do nothing but master the art of wine making and try her hand at country life.

Ellie is the person to contact about: display advertising (banner/buttons/email insertions), listings in the full-time training directory, listings in short courses diary and sponsorship.

Ellie originates from the less than glamorous town of Luton but arrived in Brighton three years ago after finishing university in Surrey.

She worked her way to Journalism.co.uk after learning her skills selling advertising on obscure trade press magazines.

When she isn't busy in the office she enjoys a rum and coke or two while rocking out on Guitar Hero, fantasising about being a character in The Lord of the Rings and getting excited about doing her next load of laundry.

Laura arrived at Journalism.co.uk after a year in London qualifying as a journalist.

She spent four years studying English in Edinburgh and a move to Brighton with its promise of sea fogs and deep fried food was too tempting to pass up.

Outside of all things new media, football, books and baking rank amongst her favourite things - though not all three at once - and she can rarely turn down a nice dark rum.

Judith comes to journalism.co.uk after testing the waters of a few journalistic environments. As well as doing her fair share of work experience (aka vox pops in the rain) in various newspaper offices across the UK, she worked as a researcher at Al Jazeera English and as an occasional freelancer. Most recently she was deputy editor at an arts and entertainment magazine in Leeds.

Now she is very happy to settle in sunny (if a little bit windy) Brighton to really, truly embrace online media, rather than getting scared by what's happening to print.

Away from work, she likes to escape the computer screen if possible and get some fresh air, read lots of books and weekend newspaper supplements, and spend time with her friends.  She often contemplates alternative careers as a florist or pastry chef before realising she probably wouldn't have the patience or talent for either of those jobs.

She also blogs at From the Online.

Email: chris at journalism.co.uk

Chris is the person to contact about: PressGo! and display advertising (banner/buttons/email insertions)

Chris made the move to Brighton four years ago coming from a sleepy village in the Oxfordshire countryside.

With a full tour of the world and a degree at the University of Brighton under his belt he has since worked in investment banking, as a television jingle composer and as a wizard at children’s parties before finally joining the team at Journalism.co.uk.

While not in the office he enjoys the Brighton music scene, playing in several bands and can regularly be found tapping his feet at gigs across the town.

Edward Martin - office assistant

Edward Martin - office assistantTel: +44 (0)1273 384293
Email: ed at journalism.co.uk

Ed graduated from the University of Sussex in 2007 with a degree in Anthropology, and having dabbled in the labyrinthine bureaucracy of the NHS for a time after brief stints selling first sweets and then books to the good folk of Brighton, has come to work for journalism.co.uk in the capacity of an office assistant.

Having made the arduous journey to Brighton from the far and distant wilds of Herefordshire some four years ago, Ed has come to rather like the seaside way of life. When not industriously toiling in the office, he enjoys reading, movies, music, and computer games, and has even tried his hand at a little amateur writing.

Colin Meek - consulting editor

Colin Meek - consulting editorColin Meek has been a freelance news and features journalist for seven years and his work currently appears on three ground-breaking internet publications. Before he began his freelance career, he worked on two high-profile news magazines over eight years, breaking a string of stories that were picked up by the UK's national media.

In 2003 he was awarded a Special Commendation at the national 2003 Norwich Union Medical Journalist Association awards for feature writing.

He specialises in medicine and health but has always been interested in how the internet is changing journalism. He has covered online journalism for dotJournalism for several years, and came up with the original concept for the newsletter.

He is working on his second book.
