Hi,

I've recently been given a copy of the superb booklet written by Simon Taylor. I have been flirting with concentrating my writing ambitions on the motoring market as despite my current situation in law (and degree) this is where of all my interests lie, and a misspent youth/adulthood watching and then competing in oval racing gives me some specialist knowledge at least. I was fortunate enough to have gained experience before completing my studies on the sports desk of my local and well established newspaper, starting out as a week but they kept me for the entire summer. I had to go back and finish my studies but in the meantime I have continued writing for other publications and been given some motoring features as part of my current role as a freelance contributor. I have set-up my own motoring features and pushed my ideas with my editors.

I would like to get some direct advice from individuals within the industry who might be able to give me some advice or pointers on how to progress, I have sent a few emails to editors but haven't had any replies as yet.

I hope to find someone who might be sympathetic to my cause - point me in the right direction - or give advice on what it is I need to do to move forwards.

All ideas welcome

Thanks for reading

Hi there

Have you thought of joining The Guild of Motoring Writers - the subs is a bit steep (I think about £90) but it does include free AA breakdown cover. There are a number of awards for young motoring journalists, so if you had some good features to put forwards you might be able to get a bit of recognition that way.

Also, can help to have a specialist angle - mine is women and cars/learner drivers/consumer issues around motoring as opposed to the more petrolhead stuff.

Good luck with it - check out my website, it's got some useful links.

Best wishes

Maria
