Hi all,

I am not a journalist but need to ask everybody’s advice please. I have a web site that needs to be publicised but the only catch is I prefer to keep my own identity private. Once when surfing the net I came across an Agent that could get stories onto the woman’s magazines, with a fee for the client of course. The fee does not concern me but if the site did take off the cost of hosting would dramatically increase but that’s way down the road. I didn’t give the agent thing much interest at the time but now am wondering.

Background to the site;
I’m Irish and lost my husband last August ‘08 in a road accident, he was 32 years. Due to the lack of a compact site for widows in Ireland containing all relevant information I set up Widow.ie in late January ‘09. There is a forum with 56 members already but still needs more of a push… and everything is free. Some members are from England, America but mostly Irish.

My questions are as follows;
Would it be advisable to get an agent that knows the ropes get the site name out there?
Who is a good agent and whom would you recommend?
Also is my story one that would generate enough interest?

If you want to know more about my story see the about section on the web site  http://www.widow.ie/page2.html or just post a question here.

Many thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Don't bother with an agent. Find a journalist or two in Ireland who write a feature about you and your site and place it in a national paper and a women's mag. That'll give you all the publicity you want.

To fund the cost if it grows, have a chat with people in the blogging community about how to monetise the site (ie, get sponsorship from suitable companies who will pay to put ads on the site).

Hi Louise,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, have been busy here but that’s no excuse.

Many thanks for your reply and the sound advice, I will have to find a good journalist as you say, but that could take me a little while. As for the magazine, I have a few ideas for one that would be most appropriate.

If the site gets busy I have an idea or two for sponsorship but that is a long way down the road.

Again, thank you and take care
