Just to introduce myself, I'm a second year business student, hoping to do my NCTJ when I graduate. I'm hoping to get them funded, therefore I have about 18 months to iron out my flaws!

It's not as if I can't spell, I'd say my spelling is above average, but in terms of journalism it's probably just below what it should be. I happen to know the institution I hope to fund my NCTJ issues an advanced spelling test (along with other various tests), I presume most do as it's sort of important in this industry!

I read and write a lot so I'm hoping this flaw will sort itself out, but if anyone can give me any other advice it would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Accommodation.....................that word sends shivers down my spine. I was on a work placement and the head of recruitment asked me to spell it. Let's just say my answer inspired this post.

Has anyone else found that learning shorthand made their spelling worse? Teaching my brain to get rid of extraneous letters when writing in a notepad seemed to translate all too easily to doing the same thing when typing...
