Hi guys

First, I'll confess that I'm completely ignorant when it comes to using programs/ technology I'm not familiar with. If an award for "Techno Dummy of The Year" existed, I'd win it.

I want to work as a broadcast journalist and whilst spending a day at a radio station recently, 2 journalists advised me to download a recording program from the internet, so I get used to hearing my voice and see where I need to improve. 1 suggested Adobe Recorder, and another mentioned Audacity. Which is the best 1 to use? All I know is that they're free and that I need a microphone.

I don't have any recording equipment. Is a microphone the only thing I need for it to work?

Any help given is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Lee

If you want a free option then go for Audacity. It's pretty good for a free editor. We use Adobe Audition here to edit our podcast - but it will cost you.

There is also another paid for option that I keep meaning to try called Hindenberg. It has a great reputation. I think it costs around $80.

There's another free option and that's a Chrome web app called Aviary audio editor. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ajiijeebjcmkhdplmollbjpljcnelfhn

You might be interested to read this post on tips for audio. It's from 6 months ago but still relevant http://blogs.journalism.co.uk/2011/06/07/ten-fantastic-apps-tips-and-tools-for-recording-audio/
