Hi

I'm currently filling in an application form for a work experience placement at the BBC. I'll appreciate any advice on how I could answer this statement.

1) In relation to the criteria, please provide details of any interests or activities which support your application for this placement.

I don't do anything outside work or belong to organisations relevant to journalism. How would you answer this question in my position? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Lee

What criteria do you have to meet? Have you done any kind of voluntary / charity work that you could use as an example? Do you have any hobbies  / interests outside of work? Anything in your role at work you could use?

I know how difficult BBC application forms can be as last year I applied for the BBC Step-Up scheme at BBC Newcastle and it took me ages to complete my form. We had to answer the following 3 questions (I'm sad and still have a copy of my application)

1. Tell us about your passion for the region, the news and story telling. Do you have any experience in journalism (for example writing for magazines, shooting your own videos, community radio, online blogging). If you don't have any experience is there anything else that demonstrates your ability to find and tell great stories

2. Tell us an original idea for a local story that you want to make. Explain how you got your idea and how you would develop it for regional TV, local radio and online. What makes your story unique and why it would appeal to the audience?

3. We are looking for people who can help us to connect with as wide an audience as possible. How would insights from your background or life experience help us connect with an under-served audience?

Luckily, I have had a lot of different jobs and done lots of voluntary and charity work which I could refer to! Over 200 people applied to the scheme, 30 of us were shortlisted for interview and 11 of us got a place on the ten week scheme. So, I know how difficult it can be.

Good luck and hope you get it.

Sarah
