Looking for aspiring journalists
« on: February 22, 2012, 12:22:17 AM »
Hello everyone,

We are a new media company and we are starting our new project.

We are looking for up and coming journalists in the following fields:

- politics
- economy/business
- tech/innovation/gadgets
- entertainment (music, film etc)

Upon application please prepare to submit a piece of work on the chosen subject.

We are looking for serious professionals that are able to commit to at least one article per week basis ( minimum 500 words and proofread)

We are happy to provide written references to the successful contributors.

The work will be unpaid to start with - yet if the project sees success - permanent positions will be offered with a choice of remuneration package.

If you are interested and serious about the offer please PM and I will be happy to answer any of your questions.

Many thanks,

You are looking for serious professionals that wish to work unpaid?

A slight contradiction in terms, no?

Hi Tim,

We are looking for professionals that are happy to come on board and in the long run be part of the business.

This post is mainly aimed at people who are starting out in the industry and are looking for experience; the fact that they are new to the industry doesn't mean they can't be serious and professional, does it?

Many thanks,

I'm sure they can be serious and professional and as such would deserve to be paid for their efforts.

You see a reference is no good for paying the mortgage or filling the fridge, that takes money.

What you're asking for is people to come and build your business up for you gratis.

You sound very pessimistic about the idea, no need for that.

As I mentioned before, I am looking for people that are starting out in the industry, I do not expect established journalists who worry about their mortgage to apply or get in touch.

The individuals I stated I am looking for are, journalists who are newly starting out, and looking to build their CV, portfolio etc.

In other words, I'm attempting to give an opportunity to younger or older freshly talented, up and coming journalists or bloggers, who have the time and the freedom to work not for me but alongside me and build a business together.

I also mentioned in my original post that this is a fresh project - which in effect means that it is starting out, I am not looking to use anyone but to make something happen that will benefit all the participants in the long run.

All in all - I am not making anybody do what they don't want to do and I have been clear about it from the start.

Best,
