Part Time Web Intern

We are currently seeking a web intern on a part time basis to assist the web editor in the day-to-day running of our two main websites. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competency in the following areas:

    Web-only article/mini-feature writing
Social media (to include Twitter and Linkedin) promotion of existing web content
Creation of interactive content, such as simple visual data presentation using, e.g. Google Charts.
    Basic proofing/subbing skills
Awareness of basic SEO principles and their practical application
    Excellent written English
Experience of finding and captioning images
Ability to use PCs and Macs alike.

The successful applicant will have identified which of Lyonsdown’s websites are its two busiest and will mention these in their application. You will be joining a small and friendly print-first editorial team, reporting to the web editor in the first instance. Your main responsibilities will be writing for web, research and visual content creation, with an emphasis on the latter.

A feel for social media, in particular reaching out to a middle-to-senior-level executive audience in order to encourage interaction and drive traffic back to the relevant web property, will be greatly valued. Some commercial awareness will be useful. There is scope for bringing your own ideas to this role.

Lyonsdown is an established and thriving media company which specialises in producing editorial content for use in national broadsheet newspapers as supplements and special reports. We also run prestigious events, publish content online and provide a range of bespoke services.

Our editorial content is published to complement the newspapers and magazines we serve and tailored to the interests of their readers. Our content is typically included as supplements within publications such as The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, The Guardian and The Economist. We also publish the content online, providing additional interactive content and engaging readers in comment and debate, while reaching a global audience.

To apply, send a covering letter and CV to g.corfield@lyonsdown.co.uk with the subject line “Web Intern”. Please include four ideas for boosting website traffic via social media.

Enquiries via social media are welcomed. Telephone enquiries are strongly discouraged. The successful applicant will be paid expenses up to £250/month and will work three days per week. The internship is initially for two months, with a fair chance of extension to a third month.

Closes on Wednesday 14th November at 1700.

That's the official advert, anyway. You'll be working directly alongside the web editor and learning how to take articles written for print, tweak them for web (headlines, standfirsts, meta titles and descriptions) and then how to promote them across the various social media channels. Everyone uses Twitter; few know how to use Twitter well for content promotion, and that's a large part of what you'll be learning here.
