BBC Wales has appointed Betsan Powys as its new political editor.

Ms Powys - currently BBC Wales' culture and media correspondent - took up her new role on Monday, 11 September, succeeding David Williams, who retires from BBC Wales news in October.

Ms Powys will take editorial charge of all BBC Wales' daily political output in the run-up to next year's Assembly elections.

She said: "I'm thrilled. I can't think of a more exciting time to be taking on this role and will relish the opportunity to guide our viewers, listeners and online audience through the crucial months to come - and beyond."
