"In an increasingly crowded market, business-to-business (B2B) journalism offers a lot of interesting opportunities and a place to make a name for yourself," advises Ben Bland, the recently appointed UK markets reporter at Dow Jones.

Previously International editor of IR magazine - an international finance title -  Mr Bland will join Dow Jones on 6 November. In his new role, he will be working on the team that produces the Market Talk services, providing the latest developments and a rolling commentary for the equities market.

"I look forward to the challenge of moving from a focus on long-form journalism for a monthly print publication to the fast and insightful analysis demand from a real-time newswire." he told Journalism.co.uk.

Mr Bland started his career at IR magazine as its European correspondent, following several work experience placements and a stint as a freelancer. During this time he completed his NCTJ distance-learning course with Cleland Thom Journalism Training.

After less than a year at IR magazine and several exclusives later, he was promoted to International editor where he was responsible for commissioning and editing all non-US stories.

Mr Bland studied history at Magdalene College, University of Cambridge and then went on to complete an MA in Southeast Asian studies at The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University of London.
