Callum Fauser has been promoted to deputy editor Aceville Publications' Smartlife International magazine.

He was previously staff writer at the title. He started his working life as an English teacher in Japan, where he taught adults, children and students with special needs.

Before making the move into journalism, Fauser worked for a manufacturer of plant labels, in an administration and proofing role. "A lot more goes into making those little plastic tags you see at Homebase and B&Q than you might think," said Fauser.

As the new deputy editor, Fauser will be researching for feature ideas, writing, sourcing images and proofing but he will also be more involved in the business side and overall direction of the magazine. That, Fauser said, would be his greatest challenge.

"It will entail learning more about the processes and minutiae of publishing than I currently know. But I’m pretty keen to grapple with it," he said
