Haymarket Consumer Media has appointed David Hall as new editor of FourFourTwo magazine. He joins the publication from athletics magazine SPIKES, where he was also editor.

Hall spent four years at the customer publishing division of Haymarket Network, working for clients such as The FA, UEFA and NFL. He joined Haymarket following a decade-long stint as a freelance, working for magazines including Smash Hits, Zoo and Marie Claire.

Speaking to Journalism.co.uk, he said the biggest challenge of his new role will be "making sure we sustain our high levels of editorial quality issue after issue while introducing the changes I have planned for the title."

His advice to those wanting to work as an editor was: "Use your ears more and your mouth less. Listening has served me well."

Hall was named editor of the year 2009 in the Association of Publishing Agencies (APA) International Customer Publishing Awards for his work on SPIKES magazine and website.
