CNN International has appointed Geoff Hill to manage the Europe and Africa Assignment Desk, as executive producer.

From August Hill will be managing the London-based international assignment desk, reporting to Europe and Africa managing editor Deborah Rayner. He replaces Tom Fenton, who has been promoted to Middle East editor.

"Geoff's entrepreneurial flair will support Deborah's vision to implement CNN's 'three-screen' approach of providing original content across our television, online and mobile platforms to give the viewer a first-class news service however they choose to receive it," said CNN International executive vice-president and managing director Tony Maddox, in a release.

Hill brings to CNN a strong track record in producing dynamic international news and sports content. Having started his career as a newspaper reporter on the Southwark News, he moved into television with ITV and ITN, where he eventually became senior programme editor responsible for News at Ten Thirty. Most recently Hill was editor-in-chief at Setanta Sports News channel, produced by ITN.

Hill said: "I've had a fantastic time at ITN and I'm very excited to be joining CNN, especially at a time when it's undergoing the most ambitious newsgathering expansion in its history.

"Joining the leading global news brand is a massive challenge and an opportunity too good to miss."
