Mark McLaughlin has been appointed political reporter with the Press Association, based in the Scottish parliament.

McLaughlin, who was nominated for young journalist of the year at the Scottish Press awards 2007, is currently senior reporter at the Edinburgh Evening News, a position he took up in January 2008.

Prior to joining the Evening News, he was a reporter with DC Thompson's Courier and Evening Telegraph newspapers, based in Dundee.

McLaughlin will take up his new role on 29 November.
