Channel 4 News has appointed Mike Radford as the new commissioning editor of the Channel 4 News Independents Fund.

The Independents Fund allows Channel 4 News to work with the independent sector to commission companies and filmmakers for the Channel 4 News and More4 News channels.

Mike Radford, who had been temporarily filling the role since the departure of the previous commissioning editor, Fiona Campbell, takes over with immediate effect.

Radford joined the Independents Fund in 2004 as executive producer in 2004, prior to which he worked for BBC Current Affairs as a reporter and producer.

"Mike has bags of journalistic authority and character. I am looking forward to watching him lead our Independents Fund which is vital to the range and quality of our reporting and reputation," Jim Gray, editor of Channel 4 News, said in the release.

"Working with the independent sector is integral to our programming and crucial to maintaining our standards of original journalism. Mike’s already had a very strong run as Executive Producer. This is the next stage," Gray said.

Radford also commented in the release: "Channel 4 News’s Independents Fund has consistently supported high quality journalism by funding those who want to take on the most challenging stories - this work will continue.

"I am really looking forward to continuing my work in the independent sector," Radford said.
