Mr George, who has been on the magazine for six years, has been promoted from the position of deputy editor.
He takes over from Tim Bowern who is leaving the technology title after spending five years as its editor.
Mr George joined the magazine as editorial assistant in 2000. Prior to this he worked for Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting and MTV.
Mr George said: "I am a lifelong fan of music and hi-fi and have really enjoyed creating a successful specialist title over the years.
"I am planning to carefully evolve the content, maintaining Hi-Fi Choice's three years of circulation growth against a backdrop of decline in the sector."
