Tivnan joined the title at the start of 2007 as a reporter. His new role will involve commissioning features each week as well as writing a few a month.
His biggest challenge is to 'sex up' the features section, making it more lively and interesting to the audience, he told journalism.co.uk.
His advice to journalists looking to move into features is: "Go into news reporting first. Too many people come into the business just wanting to work in features - a good grounding in news makes you a better features writer and editor."
