Wilson began his career with television company whereits.at, but left to join Nickelodeon as a games and sports writer. In 2002 he joined Emap and worked on a several of the publisher's titles including Bliss, More, and Zoo.
Wilson was responsible for the launch of moremagazine.co.uk and zooweekly.co.uk during his time with Emap. He was made games editor of Official PlayStation magazine in 2005 and deputy editor in 2007.
He told journalism.co.uk that is was vital, as an editor, "to let every member of your team have their say. They can shape you just as much as you can shape them."
